Kathleen "Kathy" M. Hawes joined her angels on Oct. 18, 2011. She went peacefully at home with family by her side after battling a long-term illness. She is survived by her caring and loving parents, Lowell and Mary Hawes; her brother, Michael Hawes; and sister Liana Hawes; as well as many loving and devoted friends. Kathy was born in Waterville and lived in North Vassalboro during her early years before moving with her family to Augusta and then to South Portland, where she was a resident for several years. She attended Mount Merici Academy in Waterville, graduated from Cony High School in Augusta and the University of Maine at Augusta. She was employed by the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough and hostessed at Merrill Auditorium for Portland events. Kathy was an active member of Portland Eagles Casco Aerie No. 565. Kathy was a classically trained pianist and vocalist and began her musical journey at the age of 6. She spent more than a decade singing and playing the piano at senior residences and as a singing telegram entertainer. She performed both solo and with her musical partner and beloved friend, Reginald Groff. She placed in several singing contests and was a skilled karaoke performer in melodic pop, old time standards and classics. She loved her friends at the Portland Eagles Club, where she sang and danced nearly every weekend. Kathy loved small children, teddy bears, ice skaters and performers such as Linda Eder, Bing Crosby, Cliff Richard, The Eagles and Johnny Rivers singing "Summer Rain." She enjoyed compositions from the musicals "My Fair Lady," "The Sound of Music," "Carousel" and "Phantom of the Opera," to name a few. The family would like to give a special thanks to Kathy's long-time friends, including Reggie Groff, Lynne and Sam Rinaldi, Kathy Tergesen, Dawna M. Myrick, Patrick Gallant, Theresa and Royal Gauvin, Melissa Lapointe-Martin as well as officers and friends at the Eagles Club. She will be sadly missed by all.
Date: Thu 20 Oct 2011 06:37:10 AM MDT

AUGUSTA -- It is with much sadness we announce the unexpected death of Brian K. Peaslee, 49, on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, at his home in Augusta.

Brian was born to Jerry and Joyce (Rowe) Peaslee on April 1, 1961, the third of six children.

Brian grew up in Vassalboro, where he loved to hunt and make and launch his own rockets. He played soccer at Cony High School, graduating in the class of 1979. He also graduated from Washington County Vocational Technical Institute in Calais in 1980.

Brian married the love of his life, Carlene Davis, on June 5, 1999, in Augusta.

Brian was the music man in the Peaslee family. At just about every reunion, you could count on him to bring his stereo and mass selection of music and, if you named it, he probably had it.

If you asked all the children in the family what they remember most about Brian, almost all would tell you their first memory would be of him sitting in his "music chair" wearing headphones and listening to such groups as The Beatles or Queen, or entertaining the kids with his perfect Donald Duck impersonation.

Also the family electrician, Brian was the go-to guy if anyone had electrical questions or appliance problems.

He held several jobs throughout his short life at such places as NRF and Mercer Paper Co.

It is comforting to know that Brian is in the loving arms of his mother, Joyce, who predeceased him in April 2007 and his father, J.J., in December 2008 (the family all knows that mom has her hands full now), as well as his grandparents, Urban Sr. and Dora Rowe of Vassalboro and George and Gwendolyn Peaslee of Windsor.

Brian is going to be extremely missed by his loving wife, Carlene; his beautiful daughter, Leona Peaslee, and his amazing grandson, Anthony Sanchez, both of Augusta; his stepson, Corey Witham of Augusta and stepdaughter, Ilene Witham of Texas; his brothers, Jeff and his companion, Marion Vaughan, Tim and his wife, Therese, of Vassalboro, and Russell and his wife, Crystal, of Vassalboro; his sisters, Lisa Bowman and her husband, Charlie, of Augusta and Robin Seigars and her husband, Dennis, of Vassalboro. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and many great friends.

"Close your eyes, say goodnight, hug your lover real tight. Let your dreams into your heart, let your dreams take flight. And it doesn't matter who you are. It doesn't matter where you are if you wish upon a star. If you wish upon a star." - Steve Miller Band (Wish Upon a Star)

Rest in peace, Brian. We will miss you!

Friends and relatives are invited to visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta, where a celebration of Brian's life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, with Rev. Bud Merckens officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot at Cross Hill Cemetery, Cross Hill Road, Vassalboro.

Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.khrfuneralhomes.com.
